She Always Sat It There, She Would Cut In Half And Leave One Side A Whole Half And The Other Side Slices But I Sure Do Remember It Just Like It Was Yesterday, Best Buttermilk Cornbread I've Ever Enjoyed~

Ingredients

  • *Most Important Well Seasoned Cast Iron Skillet
  • 1 Cup Gold Medal All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 Cup Gold Metal Cornmeal ( White and/or Yellow)
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 Teaspoon salt ( Sea Salt)
  • 3 Tablespoons sugar ( Sugar Cane Not Beet Sugar)
  • 1/4 cup Bacon Drippings, plus more for cast iron skillet ( The Grease From After Frying Bacon)
  • I Cup Of Buttermilk ( Fresh If You Can Get It)
  • 2 Brown Fresh Eggs ( Or Can Use Store Bought)
  • * Be Sure And Place Your Cast Iron Skillet On Burner And Allow It To Get Warm And Pour Enough Of Bacon Drippings In The Cast Iron Skillet Making Sure You Grease The Entire Skillet.

Instructions

*Preheat oven to 400°F. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt and sugar. Stir in the Bacon Drippings, Buttermilk and Eggs until just combined. Pour a thin layer of Bacon Drippings in the bottom of a cast iron skillet "And All Around The Edges". Heat over medium-high heat until the oil just starts to bubble. Pour the cornbread batter into the Warm bacon Drippings. Bake until the center is firm and lightly browned on top, about 20 minutes.
